Zesty Low-Sugar Limeade Slushie

A refreshing limeade slushie with zest! Unlike the sickly sweet limeades you often find, this is a tangy and light variation, that will help you feel cool and hydrated during your clear liquid diet.

Zesty Low-Sugar Limeade Slushie

This version uses fresh lime juice as well as natural lime cordial, to keep the flavor fresh and light, without that awful artificial lime flavor. If by chance you like artificial lime flavor, then try this quick Kool-Aid Slushie instead.

Adjust the lime juice and lime cordial to your personal taste. The amount of cordial in this recipe is the standard amount used for a glass of mixed drink (approx. 30mL / 1 fl oz per glass), but feel free to decrease or increase the amount if you like it with less or more sweetness.

I like the zesty low-sugar variation here, but you can also add a little sugar (1-2 tsp per serve) if you want it sweeter without increasing the lime flavor. If adding sugar, make sure you dissolve it in the water first, so you don’t end up with granules of sugar in your drink.

Zesty Low-Sugar Limeade Slushie

Cooking Time: 20 minutes + Overnight freezing

Serves: 4/2

Ingredients (4 serves):

  • 2.5 cups water
  • 4 limes, juiced
  • 4 fl oz (120mL) natural lime cordial, or less/more to taste
  • 17 fl oz (500mL) sparkling water

Ingredients (2 serves):

  • 1.25 cups water
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 2 fl oz (60mL) natural lime cordial, or less/more to taste
  • 8.5 fl oz (250mL) sparkling water

Instructions:

  • In a jug, combine the water, lime juice and lime cordial.
  • Transfer liquid to ice cube trays, and freeze overnight. You could freeze it as one big block, but your blender will like you more if you freeze it into smaller pieces.
  • When ready to serve, transfer the frozen lime ice cubes to a blender or food processor, and chop until it forms a slushy consistency.
  • Divide the slushie between serving glasses, and top up with sparkling water.
