Hi everyone, I’ve got my colonoscopy coming up soon and I’m already thinking about what I’ll be able to eat afterwards. Basically, I'd like to know, can I eat cheese after colonoscopy or not? Cheese is one of my comfort foods, and I’d love to know if it’s safe to have it soon after the procedure. Should I stick to very soft foods first, or is something like cheese on toast okay?

Following this! Mine is next week and I keep wondering the same thing. I love cheese and it would be the first thing I’d want afterwards too.

You’ll probably be fine, but go easy. Start with a small amount. Toast with a thin slice of mild cheese is a safe bet. Don’t go for a giant pizza right away.

Dan, I remember craving mac & cheese right after mine! I ended up doing a little melted mozzarella on white toast — super soft, easy to chew, and it hit the spot. Just don’t pick anything greasy or super sharp.

Everyone’s digestion can be a little sensitive after sedation and the prep. I’ve seen people do well with softer, bland foods first — think yogurt, mashed potatoes, or soft cheese. If your stomach feels fine, you can usually add firmer cheeses the next day. If in doubt, check what your discharge notes say.

I had scrambled eggs with a sprinkle of cheddar afterwards — no issues at all. Just take it slow and listen to your body.

Thanks for your help, everyone.

I had brie on soft white bread right after and it was perfect. No problems at all.
