Hey all,
I’m prepping for my first colonoscopy and trying to be careful. The instructions say “clear liquids only” but I’m confused about certain snacks. Does anyone know, can you eat Outshine fruit bars before a colonoscopy (the day before)? They’re made with juice, but also a bit pulpy. I don’t want to mess this up, but I really want something cold and sweet.

Anyone tried it?

Nah, skip those. Too pulpy = not clear. Plain popsicles that are see-through are fine.

Yep, Glen’s right. I craved something sweet too! I made “DIY pops” with strained apple juice poured into an ice cube tray. Totally safe, and felt like a treat.

Ah okay, that makes sense. Thanks both! I didn’t even think about freezing juice. That sounds like a good idea.

We asked about these exact fruit bars for my husband’s prep. Nurse said nope — pulp counts as food. The rule they gave us was: if you could bite something out of it, it’s not clear liquid.

@hubby-prepper I don’t think that’s entirely true that if you can bite something out of it it’s not clear liquid diet suitable – you can have clear popsicles and gelatine, and you can take bites out of those.
I just did my colonoscopy last week. I went with lemon popsicles (no pulp, no red dye) and lots of clear broth. Once you start the prep drink, you won’t be craving extras much anyway.

Good point. I stand corrected! I suppose the nurse meant bite something solid out of it, like chunks of fruit.

Sorry for the slow reply and thanks everyone! Good to know! Honestly, I’ve been overplanning and overthinking all the little details, so this helps calm me down.

You’re not alone — lots of people get tripped up on these small food rules. What I usually tell folks is: if you have to wonder, it’s probably better to avoid it. And when in doubt, call your clinic. They really do prefer you ask rather than risk an incomplete prep.
